Rebranding and Differentiating Learning Outcomes Assessment
The National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA), established in 2008, is a research and resource-development organization dedicated to documenting, advocating, and facilitating the systematic use of learning outcomes assessment to improve student learning. We designed a new visual language for their brand and digital assets to help them reposition and differentiate themselves from others in the field. We wanted the design to stand out from anything else in the field and stay far away from academic cliches. The design should be modern and have the energy of moving ahead; of advancing new ideas.
Branding
Our logo design, color palette, and supporting graphics are highly visual and interesting, using the positive and negative space created by the letter forms. We also used these shapes to create a typographic alphabet, something new to the industry and uniquely theirs.
Website
We translated the typographic design concept into a website design using interaction, overlays, and small movements to add interest to a largely minimalist design. The result is a strong user focus on the copy and intuitive page navigation.
