Making a Better Company: Introducing L.A.B.

Making a Better Company: Introducing L.A.B.

Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.

I’m not into making New Years Resolutions. Making a huge change on an arbitrary date won’t work for me in 2016 it??never has. If Im going to make a real change, I need to let it percolate in my brain for a while, do some research, write a plan, poke holes in the plan, and then execute with the knowledge that anything can change the path to the goal, but the goal will probably stay the same.

We all want to be better and do better, right? Isnt that the big idea here? For us at Lime Red, being better means a lot of things. It means doing better design and development, yes, and it also means being a better company. This is one of the reasons why we are a B Corporation. Ive also hired countless consultants to help us be a better company, with tactics ranging from coaching to scare. Most often, the enormity of the job??and long list of tasks to tackle is intimidating and overwhelming. Ive heard change has to come from the top, from the bottom, from a team, with a teacher, with a coach, within yourself?? the list goes on. Whos right?

Similarly, web development projects are huge endeavors and weve nailed that process down as best we can after a decade of experience. After a lot of fine tuning last year weve developed a mostly Agile approach that so far has been saving us a ton of time and resources and creating even better experiences and design. We break that approach down in our consulting practice to help organization and companies solve big problems and help develop programs, workshops, platforms, and other business-y bits.

So why cant we apply that method to being a better company?

We can and we will.

Last year, I spent 5 months creating a process to make companies into better companies (while making my company into a better company in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program) be those B Corporations, corporations with Corporate Social responsibility programs, other kinds of companies with a heart, or even nonprofits.

Introducing L.A.B. In L.A.B, we apply our Agile method to solving business problems ??focusing on marketing, operations, and sales. The method is iterative, so were not waiting 6 months to create a strategic plan, were rolling out high priority pieces in small batches to create tangible results right away. Business and technology just doesnt wait any more and neither will we.

Participating in L.A.B. isnt a quick fix ?it will take us a year to research, plan, implement, and measure everything to make our company into a better one. Were creating lasting change ??to make business better, to show the ROI of doing social good, and standing for something more.

Ill be posting quite a lot about our progress and Ill be as transparent as I can with our goals, numbers, failures, insights, and successes. Most of this stuff isn’t on our website yet and it won’t be for a while that’s part of the process. You’ll get to??witness our transformative process this year.
